GO Month = Get Organized Month!
~ GO MONTH EVENT NO. 1 ~
FRIDAY - 1/15/2010 - 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m.
As STRESSED.PRESSED.MESSED officially adopted Florence Crittenton in February of 2009 for the Quantum Leap Program, the 2010 GO Month project will stem from SPM's continuous work with the non-profit organization. As the home receives loads of wonderful baby-related items from donors, it is a challenge to keep the items well organized. At the end of each year, these items accumulate at a faster rate, due to the holidays, therefore, it seems logical to assist in organizing these items for easier access through each year as a GO Month event! STRESSED.PRESSED.MESSED has carefullly planned the ROOM ZOOM to take place on one day with the assistance of The Hat Ladies of Charleston, who provide volunteer services throughout the metro area. It is a delight to work with both Florence Crittenton and The Hat Ladies!

TITLE: Home Organization ~ Cut the Clutter in Your Home Room by Room
Everything you want to know about ORGANIZING, but are afraid to ask!!
Start your new year out right with a more organized home or apartment. Madeleine De Nitto of STRESSED.PRESSED.MESSED will cover strategies for organizing from a room by room approach. She will discuss how to keep a kitchen, bathroom, family room, bedrooms and even those pesky storage areas organized. She will cover some fundamental reasons why people may collect so many possessions and offer ideas on how to reduce clutter. She will be open to questions you may be afraid to ask about organizing. Madeleine is an advanced Professional Organizer who is currently working on the most comprehensive certification program within the organizing industry through NSGCD. She is also a very active member of NAPO, NAPO-NY and NAPO-GA. In 2010 she will celebrate eleven years of organizing.

HOARDING INFORMATION FROM STRESSED.PRESSED.MESSED ON LOW COUNTRY LIVE TV SEGMENT - FRIDAY 8/28/09
Here are notes and photos from today's segment on Low Country Live about compulsive hoarding.
==================================
PHOTO #1

AVERAGE CLUTTER
This is a fairly average view of a room with minor clutter. Most anyone can admit to having an overflow of mail to keep up with, a household appliance which is in need of repair or accidentally leaving food on table and forgetting about it. In addition, most people claim they dislike to file papers or that they simply don't have enough time. People can easily get behind on recyling newspapers or putting books back on the shelves. Some people even leave money lying around in random spots of a home or office that was loose from their pockets.
This is all very average behavior.
- vacuum repair
- cheese plate
- books/newspapers
- money
- filing cabinet
- mail accumulation
- a small collection of swords is haphazardly left at foot of piano

SEVERE PROCRASTINATION

UNCLEAR FUNCTION OF ROOM
LOW TO NO HOUSEKEEPING
ODORS
FOOD GOING STALE
GETTING DUSTY
BUGS
This photo shows how something may have triggered a person to get severely behind with average daily living. The vacuum, after eight years, has been moved away from the middle of the floor and it appears that there was another attempt to repair it, as it lies upside down. Surfaces are getting cluttered and covered with dust. Decorations from holiday long past are left in the middle of the room on top of the bookcase. More files are crammed into the filing drawers and as a result, the drawers cannot close. With the cheese platter still on back table, a pastry box has been added to the room and forgotten about as some chocolate cakes beginning to dry out. This person landed a cheap deal on soda and therefore, purchased a whole crate, which are left on the floor. Gifts from Christmas have not been exchanged and remain unopened. The book shelves are disorganized and more mail has accumulated. It's a wonder no one has tripped over the swords.
- Christmas decor still out
- Halloween is long over
- more files
- pastry box
- there was a cheap deal on soda
- gifts not opened
- book shelves
- mail
- swords have not been moved

INFESTATIONS- insects/spiders/mice or rats
WATER DAMAGE
LEANING OBJECTS
STRUCTURAL DAMAGE
MOLD & MILDEW- HEALTH RISKS
INJURY RISKS
What we cannot see here are the bugs that have fed on the cheese and cake and have multiplied and taken up living in the corners of the room and in the boxes which keep being added to the space. Mice have also found their way into the space. There was a water leak from a pipe in the ceiling- so far, dripping for nearly four years. Evidence of the leak is on the pillow in the chair, which is now discolored and breeding a dangerous mold. The chair is most likely ruined. The large mirror is leaning over on a wicker trunk that was salvaged off of the roadside. More holidays have passed as a Valentine peeks up from inside of the trunk. The vacuum, long abandoned remains exactly where it was in 2002. Terra cotta pots were purchased in hopes of planting bulbs for spring. A family member passed away and many family heirlooms, (including an authentic collection of ancient pottery from South America,) were inherited and decisions have not yet been made as to what to do with these items as they have accumulated in boxes, which are beginning to grow in stacks on top of the piano, which is an inappropriate place to store anything. Walking is far less easy and the rug is less visible. Pasty box has been moved slightly and a coffee pot has been placed on top of lid.
- more and more accumulation
- Valentine kept
- pots for spring planting
- antique pottery collection
- running out of floor space
- notice pastry box has moved and vacuum is still in disrepair
- stacking boxes- getting near ceiling

There are even more newspapers now and the vacuum and tool box are completely buried beneath those papers and other random items. Storing cans and boxes of food is now evident. This person likes to save things with the intention of someday repairing them, such as a birdbath fountain, that should not have been dragged into this room, as it is too heavy, had stagnant water and bred both mosquitoes and mold. Furniture was also dragged into the room with no place to be adequately stored and was therefore stacked precariously. A wicker table on the floor is turned upside down with one leg broken off. The case of colas has gone unconsumed and if you notice, there is money stashed into one of the bottle compartments. The chair ruined from the water damage is now buried beneath boxes and random odds and ends which have not been used.
- more newspapers
- more and more random accumulation
- birdbath!- stagnant water brought mosquitoes and later mold issues
- pastry box! & cheese platter
- broken items
- furniture dragged in an stacked and leaning
- vacuum and tools are now buried
- hoarding foods in large quantities
- great deal on soda- not a good deal at all- sodas are now out of date and most likely unsafe to consume!!
- more "stashes" of money- notice money in soda crate!!
- chair is buried by boxes and mail and random odds and ends
